Under the Integrated Resources Management of Water and Ecosystem in Central Hills of Nepal project, SVSI successfully completed a vegetable seed distribution initiative to strengthen local agricultural practices and equip marginalized farmers. The program provided essential seeds to 50 farming families in Chhapdada, tailored to their respective land areas, to enhance food production and economic stability.
The distributed seeds included high-value and climate-resilient crops such as tomato, cucumber, kidney beans, bitter gourd, akbare chilli, and cauliflower. These crops were carefully selected as per the request of the beneficiaries for their adaptability to the region’s climate and their potential to generate income in local markets. The initiative aims to promote sustainable family agroecological production systems, ensuring farmers have the resources to cultivate nutritious vegetables for both household consumption and income generation.
The seed distribution program comes as a critical intervention for the marginalized farming communities of Chhapdada, who often face challenges in accessing quality agricultural inputs. By equipping farmers with the necessary tools, SVSI aims to boost local food security, reduce dependency on external resources, and empower farmers to become more self-reliant.
