In a significant step towards environmental conservation and the enhancement of livelihoods, Sapana Village Social Impact (SVSI) has successfully distributed 20,000 broom grass seedlings to farmers in Kalika-10. This initiative is part of SVSI's broader commitment to fostering sustainable development in rural Nepal.
The seedlings were sourced from farmers who had previously participated in the Integrated Project "One Step in the Development of Siddhi by Preserving Nature", ensuring a sustainable cycle of growth and community empowerment. By purchasing the seedlings from these farmers, SVSI is reinforcing the value of sustainable agriculture and promoting economic resilience within the community. The transportation of the seedlings to the remote areas of Nandar and Chherbang was no small feat, given the challenging road conditions. However, the dedication and perseverance of the SVSI team ensured the successful delivery of the seedlings. This initiative would not have been possible without the unwavering support and leadership of SVSI's Chairman, Mr. Dhruba Giri; Program Director, Mr. Sujan Basnet; and Program Officer, Mrs. Sabitri Puri.
This distribution is expected to significantly contribute to both environmental conservation and the economic well-being of the local farmers. Broom grass, known for its soil-binding properties, plays a crucial role in preventing soil erosion, making it an ideal crop for the hilly terrains of Kalika-10. Moreover, the cultivation of broom grass provides farmers with a valuable source of income, thereby enhancing their livelihoods.
